Commodity Sales
Finding new uses for reclaimed materials.
Materials that are reclaimed, shredded and sorted are reused in a wide range of new products, keeping these building block materials — many of which are hazardous — out of landfills. Commodities such as metals, plastic and glass are valuable resources that are being reused every day rather than adding to the growing electronic scrap epidemic.
| Some examples of reuse include: |
| • | Glass from CRTs is smelted and used to manufacture new glass. |
| • | Steel — a highly recyclable material — is used in everything from cans to cars, including bottom frames of washing machines and base plates for refrigerators. |
| • | Plastics are used to manufacture new plastic products such as patio furniture, picnic tables and trash receptacles. |
| • | Precious metals from circuit boards are used to create new commodity grade metals. |
